I love it when a failed business becomes a vibrant new one. Freddy Donuts is situated in a converted gas station, and boy you can tell, from the giant plate glass windows out front to the covered area where the gas pumps used to be.
Inside, donuts in a stunning variety sit placidly in a big display case, coyly tempting you with their vibrant colors and toppings. The donuts are big and colorful, with inventive flavors like French toast, cookies and cream, S'mores, chocolate M&M, and Fruity Pebbles. There's even one flavored like Girl Scout Samoas.
Next to the donuts sits a coffee machine, where you can order coffee and tea, but I was here for the donuts. Mine was exactly what I wanted: pillowy, soft, and full of flavor.
If I'm ever back in Fredericksburg and want a donut, this is where I'm going.
