Gordonsville is remarkable for 3 main things: The Exchange Civil War Museum, the BBQ Exchange, and the charming downtown historic district. It includes 80+ buildings from the 19th and early 20th century, all (that I could see) in good repair.
I visited in November, which granted was perhaps not the best time to visit a historic district; flowers were not much in evidence. From what I could see, the district mainly lies on one street and consists mostly of shops and houses, plus a few churches.
A fine afternoon can be had by visiting BBQ Exchange, then the Civil War Museum next door, then walking down the street and admiring the pleasantly eclectic collection of brick shops and quaint houses on the road.
