Maryland State House appears third on TripAdvisor’s list of best things to do in Annapolis. Unfortunately, I don’t think I came at the best time to appreciate it; the outside was covered in tarps and, after I went through security, I was limited to one marble-filled hallway and the handful of rooms going off it. I couldn’t even go inside the rooms.
The rooms that you can look in to are lavishly decorated with marble columns in one case and ornate chandeliers in another. But that was the extent of my experience; peek in and move on.
Perhaps people are intrigued to see where lawmakers work. Perhaps it’s the influence of TV shows like Law & Order, and people want to see with their own eyes the kinds of places where laws are debated and made.
Don’t get me wrong: I can see the appeal if you’re into law and you wonder what the day-to-day experience of a lawmaker is like. Hopefully, when the building isn’t under construction, there’s more to see.
