I pulled into a parking lot that sat next to the river that runs through Lynchburg. I got out, walked past a piano (!) and port-o-potties (always useful), turned a corner and crossed a long wooden bridge that spanned the river, and…suddenly I was enveloped in wooded nature along a wide paved path.
Percival’s Island is a long, narrow strip of land that’s been made into the ideal easy nature walk. The paved path was a good 8 feet wide, and a few dirt trails fork off, veering into the woods for those who want a more intimate experience with nature. No matter what, you’re definitely away from it all.
