My jaw dropped at the sight. House after house, all roughly a hundred years old in style, from Victorian to colonial, all in good to great shape. Dozens of them, all different, lining Rivermont Avenue in Lynchburg.
Okay, it’s not like seeing Notre Dame, but I can’t recall anywhere else where you can see so many homes like this, all in a row, all walkable in an hour or so. Rivermont is a bit of an architectural collection, and a great opportunity to compare and contrast different styles. Does that muted combination of grays compliment the colonial deck? Do the dormer windows feel homey or austere? Would that Victorian make a good haunted house?
It’s a surprisingly engaging way to spend an hour, strolling down the avenue. I parked at Riverside Park and blissfully walked from there.
